Time Magazine has called four-time Grammy Award winner Angélique Kidjo "Africa's premier diva.” The BBChas included her in its list of the continent's 50 most iconic figures, and in 2011 The Guardian listed her as one of their Top 100 Most Inspiring Women in the World. Forbes Magazine has ranked Angelique as the first woman in their list of the Most Powerful Celebrities in Africa. She is the recent recipient of the prestigious 2015 Crystal Award given by the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the 2016 Amnesty International Ambassador of Conscience Award, and the 2018 German Sustainability Award. As a performer, her striking voice, stage presence and fluency in multiple cultures and languages has won respect from her peers and expanded her following across national borders. Kidjo has cross-pollinated the West African traditions of her childhood in Benin with elements of American R&B, funk and jazz, as well as influences from Europe and Latin America. While time differences will not allow for a live conversation, Ms. Kidjo will speak about her music and mission in conversation with Chautauqua Vice President of Performing and Visual Arts Deborah Sunya Moore, after a performance created just for the CHQ Assembly.

Cocktails, Concerts & Conversations is the CHQ Assembly performing arts series intended to connect people through music, theater and dance. Mondays will feature Opera artists and be hosted by Chautauqua Opera Company General and Artistic Director Steven Osgood; Tuesdays will feature Chautauqua Dance and be hosted by Artistic Advisor Sasha Janes; Wednesdays will feature Theater artists and be hosted by Chautauqua Theater Company Artistic Director Andrew Borba; Thursdays will feature soloists in recital and be hosted by Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra Music Director Rossen Milanov, and Fridays will feature popular entertainment artists and be hosted by Vice President of Performing and Visual Arts Deborah Sunya Moore. We hope this panoply of performances will lift your spirits and invite you to bring those spirits (ones that fill both your heart and your glass) to join us at 5:00 p.m. on most weekdays through the summer. Be it with cocktail or mocktail, come for conversation. Every artist on this series is eager to welcome you into the conversation — see you there!
