Our rooms offer a refreshing blend of modern comfort and authentic period furnishings and fixtures, including antique chairs and settees, elegant curtains and color schemes that preserve the Athenaeum’s rich historical presence. Guests have the option of staying in the Victorian Wing or the Arts and Crafts Wing. Due to the historical nature of the hotel, no two rooms are exactly alike.

The Athenaeum offers two different types of suites:

Queen Suite  A comfortable suite that's furnished with a queen-sized bed and charming sitting area. 
Family Suite A two-bedroom suite that's great for families or groups traveling together.

Our Premium rooms tend to be larger than our Standard rooms and are furnished with king, queen, full or twin-sized beds. Enjoy picturesque views of Chautauqua Lake or relax on a sitting porch that overlooks the Amphitheater, the hub of Chautauqua Institution’s programming.

Our Standard rooms, available for one to two people, are located in the Victorian Wing and the Arts and Crafts Wing of the hotel. These historic rooms vary in size and shape and offer a mix of king, queen, full or twin-sized beds. A select number of these rooms also offer wonderful views of Chautauqua Lake!

Important Information

Summer Deposit and Cancellation Policy
Reservations are confirmed with a $500 deposit that is placed toward the total balance. These reservations may be cancelled within 14 business days of booking for a full refund. After the 14-day hold the deposit becomes non-refundable, but it may be transferred to a different date. You must cancel your reservation at least 30 days prior to your check-in date to avoid a $100 per night cancellation fee. All reservations associated with promotional and/or discounted packages are subject to a cancellation fee equal to the full value of the stay and do not receive the 14-day hold. Travel insurance is recommended.

Fall and Spring Deposit and Cancellation Policy
A $50 deposit per room is required for guests visiting in the spring and fall. This deposit is non-refundable after a 3-day reservation hold.  Please contact the hotel if you have questions regarding deposit requirements.

Check-in and check-out
Check-in time is 3 p.m and check-out time is 10 a.m. If you arrive early for your reservation we will have your room ready as soon as possible. Early arrivals cannot be arranged ahead of time. Late departures are subject to a $50 fee unless pre-approved.

Gate Passes
All guests are required to have a Chautauqua Institution gate pass for the duration of their stay. Gate passes allow you to exit and re-enter the grounds and grant you entrance to the lecture series and Amphitheater performances. Gate passes for guests of the Athenaeum will be processed through the reservation office and held at the front desk.

A Chautauqua Institution parking pass is required for all cars. The Main Lot is located across the highway from the Chautauqua Institution grounds. The Athenaeum Hotel offers a valet service to the Hotel Valet Lot for a round-trip fee of $10 plus tax. A complimentary shuttle is also available.

Additional Tickets
The reservation office can process opera, theater and Preferred seating requests. Ticket sales will be based on availability at the time of the request. The Chautauqua Institution Ticket Office can be reached at 716-357-6250.
