Check-in and check-out
Check-in time is 3 p.m and check-out time is 10 a.m. If you arrive early for your reservation we will have your room ready as soon as possible. Early arrivals cannot be arranged ahead of time. Late departures are subject to a $50 fee unless pre-approved.
Gate Passes
All guests are required to have a Chautauqua Institution gate pass for the duration of their stay. Gate passes allow you to exit and re-enter the grounds and grant you entrance to the lecture series and Amphitheater performances. Gate passes for guests of the Athenaeum will be processed through the reservation office and held at the front desk.
Parking
A Chautauqua Institution parking pass is required for all cars. The Main Lot is located across the highway from the Chautauqua Institution grounds. The Athenaeum Hotel offers a valet service to the Hotel Valet Lot for a round-trip fee of $17 plus tax. A complimentary shuttle is also available.
Additional Tickets
The reservation office can process opera, theater and Preferred seating requests. Ticket sales will be based on availability at the time of the request. The Chautauqua Institution Ticket Office can be reached at 716-357-6250.
Dining
Dining Plan
Any changes to meal plans must be made at least 7 days before the start of your reservation. The Dining Plan includes lunch and a three-course dinner. Both meals are served with a full selection of wine and beer. The Athenaeum Hotel is not responsible for crediting any meals that are not consumed during your stay. Reservations are recommended.
Dining
Heirloom Restaurant at the Athenaeum Hotel provides a breakfast buffet to all hotel guests. Lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch are also available. Meals may be charged to guest rooms. Reservations are required; therefore, we encourage you to make them before your arrival.
Gratuity
Gratuity is not included in any portion of your balance at the hotel. Guests may leave gratuities for service staff at their discretion. Gratuities may also be charged to your room when dining at the in-house Heirloom Restaurant.
Restaurant Dress Code
The Athenaeum tradition of coat and tie is always welcome at dinner; we recommend business casual attire and kindly request no jeans, shorts or t-shirts. Resort casual attire is acceptable for breakfast, lunch and Sunday Brunch.

Cancellation and Deposit Policies
Wedding Reservations:
DEPOSIT
All reservations are confirmed with a deposit that is placed toward the total stay balance of $50 per room. Reservations are not guaranteed until a deposit or payment is made.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Reservations must be cancelled 14 days prior to arrival date for a full refund. Cancellations made within 14 days of arrival will forfeit the $50 deposit per room. Reservations made less than 14 days before arrival will be allowed a 48-hour cancellation window before deposits become nonrefundable. In the case of event cancellation all guest deposits will be refunded. Reservations that are not cancelled may be subject to a no-show fee of the first night’s stay balance.
Transient Spring & Fall:
DEPOSIT
All reservations are confirmed with a deposit that is placed toward the total stay balance of $50 per room. Reservations are not guaranteed until a deposit or payment is made. Third party reservations will be subject to the deposit policies of that enterprise. Promotional and discounted rates may require full payment at the time of booking.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Reservations must be cancelled 14 days prior to arrival date for a full refund. Cancellations made within 14 days of arrival will forfeit the applicable deposit. Reservations made less than 14 days before arrival will be allowed a 48-hour cancellation window before deposits become nonrefundable. Reservations that are not cancelled may be subject to a no-show fee of the first night’s stay balance. Third party bookings, discounts, and packages may be nonrefundable after 24 hours.
Season:
DEPOSIT
All reservations are confirmed with a deposit that is placed toward the total stay balance. Reservations of three or more nights require a $500 deposit; overnight and two-night reservations require the first night’s stay to be paid, and promotional packages must be paid in full at time of booking. Reservations are not guaranteed until a deposit or payment is made. Third party reservations will be subject to the deposit policies of that enterprise.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Reservations must be cancelled 14 days prior to arrival date for a full refund. Cancellations made within 14 days of arrival will forfeit the applicable deposit, or they may choose to move their deposit to another date or the following year. Deposits on file from previous years are not eligible for refund regardless of cancellation date. Reservations made less than 14 days before arrival will be allowed a 24-hour cancellation window before deposits become nonrefundable. Reservations that are not cancelled may be subject to a no-show fee of the first night’s stay balance. Third party bookings, discounts, and packages may be nonrefundable after 24 hours. Travel insurance is recommended.
