Patrick Mason is the Howard W. Hunter Chair of Mormon Studies and Professor of Religion at Claremont Graduate University, where he also serves as Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities.  Trained as an American historian at Brigham Young University and the University of Notre Dame, Professor Mason is the author or editor of several books, including What Is Mormonism? A Student’s IntroductionOut of Obscurity: Mormonism since 1945Directions for Mormon Studies in the 21st Century; and The Mormon Menace: Violence and Anti-Mormonism in the Postbellum South

A widely recognized authority on Mormon history and culture, Mason has appeared frequently in media outlets including the New York TimesWashington PostLos Angeles Times, CNN, NBC, and National Public Radio.  He lives in Claremont, California, with his wife Melissa and four children.
