Barbara Brown Taylor is a New York Times best-selling author, teacher, and Episcopal priest. Her first memoir, Leaving Church (2006), won an Author of the Year award from the Georgia Writers Association.  Her fourteenth book, Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others, was released by HarperOne in 2019.  Her work has been translated into five languages.

Emerita professor of religion at Piedmont College, Barbara has also served as a visiting faculty member at Columbia Theological Seminary, Candler School of Theology, McAfee School of Theology, and the Certificate in Theological Studies program at Arrendale State Prison for Women in Alto, Georgia.  In 2014 TIME included her on its annual list of Most Influential People; in 2015 she was named Georgia Woman of the Year; and in 2016 she was awarded The President’s Medal here at the Chautauqua Institution. 

Barbara is a five-time Chaplain of the Week at Chautauqua, who graced us with her wisdom during the 2019 week focusing on Grace: A Celebration of Extraordinary Gifts.
