Indoor fitness operations will resume August 31!

  • Members only will be allowed inside the facility. Memberships that were valid on March 16 will be reactivated on Aug. 31.
  • Fitness center hours of operation will be 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday–Friday; Saturday 7 a.m. to noon. Hours will be expanded as it is deemed responsible to do so.
  • There will be one entrance to the facility, through the lobby doors facing Route 394.
  • Face masks will be required in every area, except in the pool. Bandanas, buffs and gaiters are not acceptable face coverings for use in gyms and fitness centers.
  • Showers and lockers will not be accessible.
  • Locker rooms will only be accessible during pool hours of operation (7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday–Saturday and 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday–Friday)
  • Lobby restrooms will be available during all hours of operation.
  • Equipment has been moved to ensure safe social distancing. Members will be required to wipe down equipment before and after use.
  • Additional sanitation stations have been installed.
  • The pool will remain open by appointment only. Pool hours will be Monday–Saturday 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and Monday–Friday 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Towels and mats will not be provided. Please plan ahead to bring your own.
  • Water fountains will not be accessible. Aquafina and Gatorade will be available for sale on site.
  • TV and radio service is currently on pause. Please feel welcome to bring your electronic device (with earbuds or headphones) and take advantage of our complimentary Wi-Fi.
  • Group exercise classes will continue outdoors, weather permitting.
  • Smaller equipment that was deemed hard-to-clean has been temporarily removed.
  • New, larger equipment has been added to our fitness floor.
  • New members are welcome. Memberships can be purchased online at fitness.chq.org.
  • Additional staff will be on hand to enhance cleaning efforts and to assist you as you navigate this new normal.

Chautauqua Health & Fitness has two locations: a full-service, year-round facility at the Turner Community Center on Route 394 and a smaller summer operation at Heinz Beach in Chautauqua Institution. Members of Chautauqua Health & Fitness have access to both facilities with their membership, but will need a gate pass to get to the one at Heinz Beach.

Group Exercise Classes

Advance registration is required. You can register for outdoor classes online using the MindBody app or by calling 716.357.6430 to reserve a spot and pay. If you call and leave a message, please do not assume your reservation is confirmed until you receive a return call from staff. All outdoor classes are weather permitting.


Outdoor Chair Yogalates with Peg
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 9 to 10 a.m. | Through the end of September 
$8 per class for members | $12 per class for non-members
This class is designed to increase muscle strength and enhance range of movement while improving balance and overall mobility. A chair is used for seated exercises and standing support. This class incorporates yoga and Pilates moves as well as exercises using light handheld weights. Weights and chairs will be provided. 


Outdoor Team Monaco with Julie
Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 to 11 a.m. | July 21–Aug. 13 (make-up class Aug. 20)
$8 per class for members | $12 per class for non-members
This class is a small-group approach to full-body conditioning with everyone working at their own level. 


Outdoor Rush Hour with Stephanie
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. | Resumes Aug. 19

This is a high-intensity workout that includes cardio, strength and core movements using a variety of different training styles.

Personal Services Offered

Personal Training: one hour or 30 min. sessions with a certified personal trainer.
Pilates Reformer or Mat Training: Pilates conditioning focuses on core stabilization and dynamic movement for improving strength, balance, flexibility and posture.
Nutrition Consultations: get healthful weight loss advice, meal and snack ideas, substitutions, review your daily diet and set realistic goals, learn how to reset your metabolism!
Private Yoga Sessions: one hour sessions with a certified Yoga instructor.
Private Swim Lessons & Coaching: 30 min. sessions with an experienced instructor to work on introduction to water, basic water skills, and stroke development, technique or improvement.

Shoe Drive: Donate Lightly Used Athletic Shoes

CHQ FIT is teaming up with the More Foundation Group to participate in a lightly used athletic shoe donation drop location. Look for the shoe collection box in the hall way outside the fitness center.

  • Treadmills, stair climbers, elliptical, rowing machines, recumbent and upright bikes.
  • User-friendly strength-training machines, free weight equipment, multi-station cable crossover, multi-press and power rack, Smith Machine, heavy bag, speed bag, and other accessory equipment.
  • Fitness center memberships include complimentary use of the 25 yard indoor swimming pool (Pool-only memberships available).
  • Short, two-sided basketball court available for free to the community on a first come first serve basis (consult staff for schedule of availability).
  • Fitness center orientations are included with memberships of 1 month or longer.
  • All members must be 14 years of age or older. Youth under 14, as part of a family membership, must be accompanied by a parent at all times throughout facility and may use selected equipment following an orientation with our staff.
  • Personal services include private swim lessons, personal training, Pilates reformer training and small group personal training.
  • Group exercise classes offered during fall, winter and spring based on interest and availability of qualified instructors. For summer group exercise classes see Special Studies catalog or call (716) 357-6255.
  • Locker rooms equipped with showers, day use and rental lockers.
  • Membership includes use of facility at Heinz Beach a well (must have gate pass to access. See details below).
  • Free, convenient parking. During the summer, no gate pass needed if coming from outside Chautauqua Institution.
