Chautauqua Health & Fitness is open and operating in accordance with NYS DOH Interim Guidance for Gyms & Fitness Center Centers During the Covid-19 Public Health Emergency.

  • Face masks are required in every area, except in the pool. Bandanas, buffs and gaiters are not acceptable face coverings for use in gyms and fitness centers.
  • Shower and locker access is limited.
  • Equipment has been moved to ensure safe social distancing.
  • Members are required to wipe down equipment before and after use with provided wipes.
  • Additional hand sanitation stations have been installed.
  • The pool is open by appointment only. Call 716-357-6430 to schedule a swim lane.
  • Please plan ahead to bring your own towel and mat when you visit.
  • Water fountains are not currently accessible. Aquafina and Gatorade are available for sale on site.
  • TV service is on pause. Please feel welcome to bring your electronic device (with earbuds or headphones) and take advantage of our complimentary Wi-Fi.
  • Group exercise classes have resumed indoors. Click here for more information. As weather improves and stabilizes, outdoor classes will be added to the schedule.
  • Smaller equipment that was deemed hard-to-clean has been temporarily removed.
  • One-way foot traffic patterns have been established where possible to support safe social distancing.
  • From May 29–August 28, fitness center hours will expand to Monday–Friday 6:30 a.m.–8 p.m.; Saturday & Sunday 8 a.m.–4 p.m. From June 19–August 28, pool hours will expand to Monday–Friday 6:45 a.m.–Noon & 4–7 p.m.; Saturday 7–11 a.m. Reservations will still be required for pool use.   • New members are welcome! Memberships can be purchased online at fitness.chq.org.
  • Basketball courts are available at the Coyle complex. The Turner basketball court has been reutilized for socially distancing cardio equipment.

For over 130 years, the Chautauqua Institution has provided opportunities to enrich the mind, body and spirit. Chautauqua Health & Fitness continues the tradition. We are dedicated to helping you succeed, whatever your health and fitness goals: weight loss, increased flexibility, sports training, muscle toning, medical rehab, stress reduction, or general fitness and conditioning.

Our supportive staff will help evaluate your fitness level, suggest an appropriate exercise program, and keep you motivated. We'll also strive to be a valuable community resource on current health and fitness issues.

Chautauqua Health & Fitness has two locations: a full-service, year-round facility at the Turner Community Center on Route 394 and a smaller summer operation at Heinz Beach in Chautauqua Institution. Members of Chautauqua Health & Fitness have access to both facilities with their membership, but will need a gate pass to get to the one at Heinz Beach.

Fitness Center

Must be at least 14 years of age to use fitness center. Memberships/passes/debit cards are non-transferable.

Family Memberships: Includes up to two adults and their dependent children through full-time college students up to age 23, living in the same household. Due to COVID restrictions, access to fitness center is limited to ages 14 and up. Click here for pool-specific youth policies. Visiting family members are not included in family memberships.

Reservations required. Call 716-357-6430 to schedule a swim time. Must be at least 12 years of age to use pool without parent/guardian present. Click here for youth pool policies and safety protocols.


Debit Card Holders

If you possess a 10-visit prepaid debit card that was purchased prior to March 16, 2020 with remaining unused visits, please call the fitness desk at 716-357-6430 to discuss your options.

Individual Fitness Center Debit Card: $100 for 10 prepaid single visits 
Expires 1 year from date of issue. Cannot be used for group exercise classes. 

Individual Pool Debit Card: $50 for 10 prepaid single visits
Expires 1 year from date of issue. Cannot be used for group classes.

Register and pay for class(es) at the fitness center desk or by calling 716-357-6430. Masks and social distancing required. Bring your own mat and water bottle. Advanced registration is required either at the fitness center or by phone. Class sizes are limited.

This class is a combination of intermediate mat work and functional core stabilization.

Tai Chi

Personal Services Offered

Personal Training: one hour or 30 min. sessions with a certified personal trainer.
Pilates Reformer or Mat Training: Pilates conditioning focuses on core stabilization and dynamic movement for improving strength, balance, flexibility and posture.
Nutrition Consultations: get healthful weight loss advice, meal and snack ideas, substitutions, review your daily diet and set realistic goals, learn how to reset your metabolism!
Private Yoga Sessions: one hour sessions with a certified Yoga instructor.
Private Swim Lessons & Coaching: 30 min. sessions with an experienced instructor to work on introduction to water, basic water skills, and stroke development, technique or improvement.

Shoe Drive: Donate Lightly Used Athletic Shoes

CHQ FIT is teaming up with the More Foundation Group to participate in a lightly used athletic shoe donation drop location. Look for the shoe collection box in the hall way outside the fitness center.
