Encore Creativity for Older Adults Offers Free Performances August 25-30, 2013
CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. (Aug. 12, 2013)—Encore Creativity for Older Adults returns to the famed Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, N.Y. in collaboration with two of the nation’s premiere creative arts programs to present an innovative program for adults over the age of 55 from Aug. 25 – 30, 2013. The Encore Choral, Movement and Theatre Institute is now in its sixth season at CHQ and invites the CHQ community to free events during the week.
On Monday, Aug. 26, Margaret Flanigan, Soprano, will perform at Lenna Hall at 7:30 p.m. Flanigan will perform selections from the American Songbook and American Art Songs, as well as arias by Mozart, Bizet and others.
Encore welcomes two guest speakers to Lenna Hall on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 7:30 p.m. Marcia Talley, acclaimed mystery author, will present “The Mind of the Mystery Writer” and will discuss her background as a writer, her influences and where she gets her ideas focusing on the real stories behind her novels. She’ll also share insights into the writing and publishing process and give a sneak peek at the projects “in the works.”
For those interested in European travel, Brady Ryan of Grand Circle Travel will present on “Traveling the Great Rivers of Europe” and explain the special opportunities river cruising provides the traveler. Encore singers will travel the Danube aboard a Grand Circle ship from Budapest to Prague in May 2014, and highlights of that journey will be shared.
Finally, on Friday, Aug. 30, the Choral, Theater and Movement Institute participants will present the grand finale performance at 2 p.m. in Lenna Hall. The choral performance will include a medley from Porgy and Bess, The Heavens are Telling from The Creation by Haydn and more. All three programs will come together at the conclusion to perform a medley of selections from Fiddler on the Roof.
