Front Porch Pickup at the Library

Beginning June 17th | Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

▪ Browse our online catalog. (Only items at The Smith.)

▪ To request materials and schedule pickup email or call 716.357.6296.

Curbside: Pop trunk or roll down rear/passenger window (available thru 6/26).

▪ Walk-up: Pickup on table out front or inside front entry. ▪ The building remains closed to the public.

▪ Print jobs may be emailed to Fax/scan by appointment.

▪ Preferred payment is exact change in a drop box.

▪ All materials will be discreetly bagged/covered and labeled by last name.

▪ All exchanges are contact-free. No items will be directly “handed off.”

Returns may be placed in bookdrop directly by patrons.

▪ All returned items are quarantined for 72 hours before checking in.

▪ All staff will wear masks and sanitize hands frequently if not wearing gloves.

▪ Patrons are encouraged to pre-order, wear masks, and maintain social distance.

▪ Reference questions are encouraged via chat, email, phone or videoconference.

▪ A limited number of new items will be featured for in-person touchless browsing.

▪ Newspaper sharing is not possible at this time.

▪ Library WiFi is always on and reaches into Bestor and Odland Plazas.

▪ Front porch seating is limited and social distancing must be practiced.

▪ There will be no in-person programs or meetings in the library this summer.

▪ Limited building use, fuller services & computers coming soon at a date TBD.

About The Smith

The Smith Memorial Library of Chautauqua Institution anchors the southern end of Bestor Plaza.

A member of the Chautauqua-Cattaragus Library System, The Smith offers year round services to the community:

      • Broad collection of circulating and archival materials
      • Access to ebooks and digital audio through your mobile device
      • InterLibrary Loan services, reference assistance, and basic tech help
      • WiFi, laptop workstations, and public desktop computers
      • Copy and print capability


To enrich the lives of the greater CHQ community by providing access to materials in a variety of formats, as well as other appropriate library services, for the purposes of education, intellectual stimulation, and pleasure; and to do so within the framework of the accepted principles of the library profession.
