Dear Chautauquans: Yesterday we announced internally that we will require all Chautauqua Institution, Chautauqua Hotel Company and Chautauqua Foundation staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by Jan. 31, 2022 (or by start date for new employees). Now that the FDA has approved vaccines for individuals age 16 and older, following months of emergency approval, we think this is the natural next step for us to take as responsible stewards of community health and safety. The Chautauqua Theater Company (CTC) has announced that artistic director Andrew Borba and managing director Sarah Clare Corporandy will step down from their positions, and national searches to fill the positions will launch shortly. Corporandy will depart in spring 2022, following the appointment of a new managing director, and Borba will step down after the company’s 2022 season in August.
Chautauqua Institution President Michael E. Hill today announced the Institution’s 149th Summer Assembly will return to its normal schedule and cadence, June 25–Aug. 28, 2022. This decision follows a two-day meeting of the Institution’s Board of Trustees Nov. 5–6. Institution to Launch National Search for His Successor Chautauqua Institution today announced the retirement of the Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson as Vice President of Religion and Senior Pastor, effective Dec. 31. Details of a national search for his successors in both roles will be shared shortly. Dear Chautauquans, As some of you are aware by now, Chautauqua lost one of the most valued leaders in its history on Sept. 18, 2021. His funeral services will be held in Wisconsin on Monday. Dick Miller served as a Trustee of Chautauqua from 1966 to 1981, as Chair of the Board of Trustees from 1970 to 1978, and as President of the Chautauqua Foundation from 1971 to 1996. When Dick came onto the Board of Trustees by all accounts Chautauqua was in a period of decline and financial vulnerability.
