Ibsen wrote An Enemy of the People in 1882 about a poisoned water source and the community’s reaction. As artists and community leaders, the Public Enemy: Flint partners believe that theatre has a role to play beyond mere entertainment. Theatre has the potential to invite citizens to examine the very nature of our democracy and the limits and possibilities of each citizen’s power. It is our hope that Public Enemy: Flint will entertain audiences while providing the opportunity to connect to fellow community members and examine the places we live and the events that affect our lives. The project’s goal is to empower individuals to feel, speak, think, and engage in a space shared with others of diverse perspectives.
