Daniel Grambow joins Chautauqua Opera as Managing Director
Chautauqua Opera announces the appointment of Daniel Grambow as Managing Director.Daniel will reside in Chautauqua and will join the full-time staff in the Performing and Visual Arts office at Chautauqua Institution.
“I am thrilled that Daniel Grambow will be joining us as Managing Director, and that he will be a year-round resident in Chautauqua County,” says General and Artistic Director Steven Osgood. “Daniel’s wide ranging experience as a performer and producer will be a tremendous addition to our company. His passion and devotion to civic engagement will help Chautauqua Opera build its connection to the entire community in and around the Chautauqua Institution. These are exciting times at Chautauqua and I am excited to welcome Daniel to our company.”
Daniel brings over a decade of experience in the field as a producer, director, educator, and classically trained singer. The founder of Floating Opera Company, Daniel directed and produced 27 operatic productions throughout the Midwest. Examples of his work include War & Peace, an original composite opera that commemorated the centenary of World War I, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, a site-specific production at Bohemian National Cemetery, John Bilotta’s Quantum Mechanic reimagined inside of an industrial teaching kitchen,and Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte inspired by the “Super Mario” universe andperformed in Bridgeport Art Center’s warehouse loading dock. Daniel’s credits also include creating an original libretto for La Bohème Warhola as an Assistant Director for Pittsburgh Festival Opera, in collaboration with the Warhol Foundation and Heartbeat Opera. And as the Education and Outreach Assistant for Chicago Opera Theater, he coordinated in-school programs for approximately 1,500 Chicago Public School students, among other successes.

I looking forward to bringing my own passion for learning to the Chautauqua family this summer.”
Daniel joins the company as they begin their adventurous 2019 season, which features Rossini’s classic romp Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Vid Guerrerio’s contemporary adaptation of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, ¡Figaro! (90210), and John Corigliano and William Hoffman’s grand opera buffa The Ghosts of Versailles. Based on the three “Figaro Plays” by 18th-century French playwright Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, the three operas trace the lives of Figaro, Count Almaviva, Rosina, and their friends and foes through many years of adventures and mishaps together. For the first time audiences will be able to experience these three operas on consecutive nights during the company’s first Festival Weekend, July 25-27, 2019.
