Joseph Futral Named Senior Director of Program Operations and Production
Chautauqua Institution today announced the appointment of Joseph Futral to Senior Director of Program Operations and Production.
In this role, Futral will project-manage major initiatives that involve production and programming resources. He will supervise production for all programs to continuously advance the operational and strategic aspects of production within the context of the Institution’s 150 Forward strategic plan.
Futral returns to Chautauqua having served as the Institution’s first Director of Production during the COVID-19 pandemic. His role played a critical part in designing and operating our outdoor Performance Pavilion on Pratt for Theater and Opera.
Holding esteemed leadership roles such as Director of Program Planning and Operations at Baltimore Center Stage and Director of Production at Tulsa Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Vail Dance Festival and Pilobolus Dance Theatre, Futral returns to Chautauqua with three decades of unparalleled knowledge and experience.
Additional production credits include Kinetic Light, Gallim Dance, The Joyce Unleashed, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance, American Dance Festival, Fred Garbo’s Inflatable Theatre Company, and Ohio Ballet. Further experience backstage includes supporting Dance Theatre of Harlem and Jose Limon Dance as lighting supervisor, and master electrician for the Spoleto Festival USA.
In addition to his professional experience, Futral has served the arts and culture community beyond production as a board member for Full Radius Dance and serving on peer-review panels for the Georgia Council for the Arts and Atlanta Arts Council.
Futral’s service to Chautauqua begins on Monday, April 8.
