Unless otherwise noted here, beaches are open, and there are no known concerns with lake water quality.

Due to current and anticipated weather conditions, both Children’s Beach and Pier Beach will be closed today.

Update: August 3, 2024 at 3 p.m.

Pier Beach will be closed for the remainder of the day due to a staffing issue.

The lake is clear, so the Boys’ and Girls’ Club participants may be swimming today as part of the program.

Children’s and Pier Beach are both open.

Both beaches appear much improved, with no algae observed. Pier Beach will open at noon today. Children’s Beach will remain closed until 2 p.m., at which time we will reassess the situation. If no algae are present, we will open Children’s Beach at 2 p.m. These actions are based on recommendations from the Chautauqua County Health Department.

Update: July 13, 2024 at 12:04 p.m.

The beaches remain closed today as the algae bloom did not dissipate overnight. We will continue to post updates throughout the weekend.

We want to inform you about an important update regarding Children’s Beach and Pier Beach.

Earlier today, staff at the Boys’ and Girls’ Club identified a potential algal bloom in the water, and as a precautionary measure, closed Children’s Beach and Pier Beach for swimming.

The County Department of Health supports this decision. To ensure the safety of our community, we are actively monitoring the situation. If the algal bloom dissipates, we will cease active monitoring over the weekend and anticipate a full reopening of the beaches on Monday, provided conditions remain favorable.

However, if the algal bloom does not dissipate by the end of today, the DOH has requested that we send regular photographic updates to help determine the appropriate time for reopening the waterfront.

We will keep you updated on any changes and appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time.
