Following a national search, Chautauqua Institution today announced the appointment of Angela Schuettler of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Schuettler begins her service October 23. 

As CFO, Schuettler will play a critical role as a member of the President’s Executive Team, advising Chautauqua leadership and leading initiatives that will ensure Chautauqua Institution’s long-term financial sustainability at a moment of exciting organizational transformation. Reporting directly to the president, her duties include the preparation and monitoring of the annual operating budget and capital budget, strategic financial planning; and overseeing processes related to resource allocation and controls.  

Chautauqua President Michael E. Hill, Ed.D., says the position supports the Institution’s growth trajectory.   

“We are delighted Angela is joining our Executive Team to provide added leadership and strategic vision to the Institution’s finance division, building on our positive financial position and situating us for growth, including through diversifying our revenue streams,” Hill said.   

Schuettler is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant.  Most recently she served as chief financial officer and chief administrative officer of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh. Prior to that, she served as vice president and corporate controller of NOVA Chemicals in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, and in various roles for Deloitte.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Regina and participated in the Harvard Business School Executive Education Program.

Residing in Pittsburgh with her husband and twin son and daughter, both high school seniors, Schuettler will serve Chautauqua in a hybrid remote work arrangement. 

Hill added thanks to Executive Vice President Sebastian Baggiano, who has been serving the dual role of executive vice president and chief financial officer through the COVID pandemic.  

“I am grateful to Sebby for holding these two full-time positions during a critical time of disruption at Chautauqua and in the world. Sebby’s full-time focus on his duties as Executive Vice President and Angela’s appointment as CFO fulfill a multi-year restructuring approved by our Board of Trustees to position Chautauqua to be stronger now and into the future. I am excited to see Angela’s many gifts play out in service to Chautauqua’s mission,” Hill said. 

This national search was conducted with support from the executive search firm Isaacson, Miller.
