About Sarah
Sarah is the manager of the Chautauqua Schools of Performing and Visual Arts and, with the artistic and managing directors of the schools (music, dance, opera conservatory and visual arts), is responsible for maintaining and sustaining its high standards and direction. She is tasked with ensuring a meaningful, safe, and artistically fulfilling summer for all students and faculty from all disciplines, ages and ethnicities.
Sarah’s responsibilities are many and varied. For each school she develops and maintains the operating budgets with the artistic/managing directors, oversees their scholarship budgets and assigns all named awards. She supports fund-raising efforts and explores and identifies avenues for increased revenue and support. She is the point person for all student/faculty complaints, ensuring a fair HR process, and provides guidance to international students. Sarah also schedules audition tours (live and virtual) and assists with hiring and training summer residence hall staff with the director of residence halls. She oversees the Chautauqua Connections program and liaises with the other Friends Groups (Dance Circle, CVA Friends). She also provides input to Marketing on content and layout for publicizing and branding the schools, which includes digital, printed and social media.
Sarah started working at Chautauqua when she was 15, scooping ice cream at Sadie J’s (gone now). She has also served as the coordinator of student services at the Institution’s Schools of Performing and Visual Arts. Before that, she was the admissions/recruitment/student services assistant at Jamestown Community College. She holds a bachelor’s degree in music from Ohio Northern University, where her focus was on vocal performance and business.
