About Sam
Chautauqua Visual Arts Assistant Sam Kelly earned a BFA in painting from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and an MFA in painting from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in North Dartmouth. Sam has completed residencies at the Chautauqua School of Art in Chautauqua, New York, and Four Pillars in Mount Gretna, Pennsylvania. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally including the CICA Museum, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea; THE ROOM Contemporary Art Space, Venice, Italy; Surface Gallery, Nottingham, United Kingdom; Blue Mountain Gallery, Bowery Gallery, First Street Gallery, and Prince Street Gallery in New York City; Bromfield Gallery, Boston; Susquehanna Art Museum, Harrisburg; University of Alaska Anchorage; Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia; and University of North Carolina Asheville.
He is the recipient of the Art in the City Grant, awarded by the Downtown Dayton Partnership; the Artist Opportunity Grant, awarded by the Montgomery County Arts and Cultural District; and the Mercedes Matter Award, awarded by the New York Studio School. Sam currently teaches as a Visiting Lecturer at Indiana University East.
