About James

Golf Course Superintendent James Hayes provides the necessary course conditions so golf can be fully enjoyed at Chautauqua Golf Club. Since 2013, James was assistant superintendent at The Kahkwa Club in Erie, Pennsylvania. Prior to his time at Kahkwa, James gained valuable expertise at prestigious establishments such as the Congressional Country Club Blue Course in Bethesda, Maryland, and the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia. 

In a full-circle moment, he is back at the golf club where it all started 21 years ago — when he was a summer maintenance employee. James graduated in 2009 from SUNY Delhi with a bachelor’s degree in golf course maintenance.

Why did you choose to work at Chautauqua? What do you like about working at Chautauqua?

Chautauqua has always felt like home and it’s special to many who’ve experienced it.
