We challenged Richard to a 30-second interview. Here is what he told us:
Q: What is your favorite opera?
A: My favorite opera is, hands down, La Bohème. It was the first show I ever did, and the music has just stayed in my heart ever since. All of the emotion and drama in that show just makes me wanna cry.
Q: Who are your favorite singers?
A: I have so many favorite singers! I think Renee Fleming is one of the best artists of our time. I love her so much. Bryn Terfel has always been an inspiration for me in my music. He makes every part he does so uniquely him. His interpretation of piece will sound like no one else's. Also I love Anna Netrebko. She's the background on my laptop!
Q: What are your dream roles?
A: I have three dream roles actually, Iago from Otello, Don Giovanni, and Count Almaviva from Le Nozze di Figaro. I love them because they're all such imposing figures on stage. They control all the action of their respective operas, and plus it's fun to play the villain ;)
Q: What was your favorite singing experience so far or your favorite role that you have performed?
A: I have to say it was playing Nick Shadow in The Rake's Progress this past March with FSU Opera. I love the acting side of opera just as much as the music so it was great to really have to dig deep for a role. Also, it was my first on stage "death", and it was pretty epic!
Q: What do you love about opera?
A:I love opera so much, because it just takes over all of your emotions. The combination of these amazing stories and unparalleled music can really touch people to their core. That's what drew me to the art form.
Q: What is your favorite flavor of icecream?
A:This is the hardest question of all! I guess I would have to say ... Cookies and Cream. It's the best of so many worlds.
Q: What else should we know?
A: I am a HUGE Game of Thrones fan! I’ve seen every episode and read all the books! I can’t get enough!
