We challenged Kasia to a 30-second interview. Here is what she told us:

Q: What is your favorite opera?
A:Eugene Onegin is my favorite opera, and I couldn't be more excited to be a part of the production at Chautauqua Opera this summer!

Q: Who are your favorite singers?
A: I could listen to Renata Tebaldi, Renata Scotto, and Mirella Freni all day.  I'm also a sucker for Ghedda and Lawrence Brownlee.

Q: What are your dream roles?
A: I would love to sing any/all Britten--the Governess, Ellen Orford, Lady Billows. I also dream of singing lots and lots of Strauss.

Q: What was your favorite singing experience so far or your favorite role that you have performed?
A: I loved studying and singing Marguerite in Faust. I had a whole year to prepare the role (thanks to the luxury of being in school) so I not only learned my own part inside and out but also knew everyone else's as well. I look forward to knowing all the roles in my rep like that someday!

Q: What do you love about opera?
A: I love how opera brings beauty to our world. Combining all of the art forms to make one giant masterpiece, it allows us to escape and to think and to enjoy.

Q: What is your favorite flavor of icecream?
A: Cookie monster from Hoffman's Ice Cream "down the shore" (I'm a Jersey girl born and bred). It's an amazing mix of Cookies 'n cream and cookie dough, and although it happens to be blue, it is the most delicious flavor that ever existed.

Q: What else should we know?
A: My real name is Katherine, but I go by the Polish version of Katie, “Kasia”

We challenged Alice to a 30-second interview. Here is what she told us:

Q: What is your favorite opera?
A: My top favorite operas are Rossini's L'elisir d'amore and Menotti's The Consul.

Q: Who are your favorite singers?
A:  Some of my favorite singers are Marilyn Horne, Angela Meade, Jonas Kaufmann, Rene Pape, and Luciano Pavarotti.

Q: What are your dream roles?
A: Two of my dream roles are Azucena from Verdi's Il Trovatore and Dalila from Saint-Saens's Samson et Dalila.  Both are such controversial characters, and it would be so much fun and so rewarding getting to analyze and perform these roles.

Q: What was your favorite singing experience so far or your favorite role that you have performed?
A: I have a song I always love to perform.  It's called "George" from William Bolcom's Cabaret Songs.  "George” is delicately weaved with humor and operatic references, and is a wonderful model of art song as a vehicle for societal observation and criticism.

Q: What do you love about opera?
A: I love opera because it is such a holistic art that celebrates and critiques humanity.

Q: What is your favorite flavor of icecream?
A: COFFEE!

Q: What else should we know?
A: Sometimes, I find myself in an awkward situation caused by sheer excitement over food like cream puffs and funnel cake.

We challenged Lorenzo to a 30-second interview. Here is what he told us:

Q: What is your favorite opera?
A: Il trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi.

Q: Who are your favorite singers?
A: Angela Meade, Matthew Polenzani, and Nicolai Gedda.

Q: What are your dream roles?
A: Ernesto (Don Pasquale) and Alfredo (La traviata).

Q: What was your favorite singing experience so far or your favorite role that you have performed?
A: Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte.

Q: What do you love about opera?
A:I love the poetry aspect of opera.  I love the syntax and the elegance of words used to convey emotion.  The way people communicated back then with their actions and words spewed out more emotion and passion.  I love imagining/portraying how they might have acted and related to one another with their use of words.  The elegant words used, along with the beautiful melody line the composer provides, create an explosive feeling of excitement and passion; an indescribable feeling.

Q: What is your favorite flavor of icecream?
A:Mint chocolate.

Q: What else should we know?
A:I love the taste of strong, burnt coffee…jet fuel I like to call it.

We challenged Kelly to a 30-second interview. Here is what she told us:

Q: What is your favorite opera?
A: Don Carlos by Verdi

Q: Who are your favorite singers?
A: Tatiana Troyanos, Elina Garanca, Elena Obraztsova

Q: What are your dream roles?
A: Charlotte in Werther, Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier, Carmen in Carmen

Q: What was your favorite singing experience so far or your favorite role that you have performed?
A: My favorite role was Carmen. Learning how to do flamenco dance moves and play the castanets was super exciting. Also, having so many men in love with you at once has to be a fun experience for any one, no matter how deadly it may be.

My favorite singing experience was when I used to volunteer for Triune Mercy Center, a church whose mission was to provide food and housing as well as ministry and support for the homeless population in my hometown of Greenville, South Carolina. Through singing, I was able to speak to a greater cause and comfort those who were in deep distress.  The experience of seeing how affected people were by music and the sense of peace just a simple performance could give them made me decide to begin my journey to become a professional musician.

Q: What do you love about opera?
A:I love how it combines so many art forms while still presenting itself as one entity, and its ability to encompass a range of cultures and topics while still remaining universal. Also, the dresses, the wigs and of course the high notes.

Q: What is your favorite flavor of icecream?
A:Mint Chocolate Chip

Q: What else should we know?
A: I love exploring and learning new things…I recently began horseback riding and am taking Mandarin classes.
