Welcome to the Winter Village at Chautauqua, a new, family-oriented series of events that celebrates the joy and fellowship of the holiday season and showcases Chautauqua Institution’s picturesque grounds and boutique shops, restaurants, spas and other businesses. 

Each weekend’s activities will be centered on Bestor Plaza, our town square, including holiday lighting, shopping, beverages and snacks with outdoor fire pits, and opportunities to meet or write letters to Santa. Read more below about special featured events by weekend.

November 24–26

Light the Plaza
Join us at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24 on an elegantly lit Bestor Plaza and officially kick off the Winter Village at Chautauqua Festival.  Santa will arrive as the crowd is serenaded with holiday cheer.  Smores and holiday beverages by the fire will warm the mood and spirit at this inaugural Winter Village event.

Visits with Santa
Friday, Nov. 24 from Noon to 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 25-26 from Noon to 6 p.m. • St. Elmo Parlor
Share your holiday dreams and gift list with Santa fireside and receive a Winter Village commemorative magnetic frame to feature your favorite photos on the family refrigerator. $5 for visit and self-photo; $10 with a printed photo.  Note:  Santa will take a break at 5 p.m. Friday to join in the Light the Plaza celebration on Bestor Plaza.

Horsedrawn Carriage Rides by Crackerjack Farms
Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 24-26, 1:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. • Purchase tickets at Chautauqua Bookstore at time of ride • Board carriage in front of St. Elmo

Enjoy holiday music as you tour the historic grounds in a Victorian-era carriage.  $5 adults; $3 children.

Send your letter to Santa by owl. Come by the Colonnade to write a magical wizarding letter with the help of Santa's elves. All letters will be sealed with a wax stamp. Small fees for add-ons and return letters ($1-$3).
