2017 Internships

Chautauqua Theater Company is now accepting applications for its 2018 summer internship program. Contracts run 9-12 weeks starting in mid- June, housing and small stipend provided.

The CTC internship offers the opportunity for young theater artists and students to gain experience and resume credits while working alongside professionals in a community based artistic environment. Interns work under the guidance of master practitioners in producing every aspect of our season. Through job assignments, special events and company involvement, CTC interns will gain an understanding of the various aspects involved in working with a professional company and will be offered opportunities to utilize and develop their skills in the field.

Marketing/Artistic Intern

Looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic and organized individual to assist the Artistic Director and Associate Artist of The Chautauqua Theater Company. This is an opportunity to learn and be part of how a theater is run.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
● Assisting the Artistic Director and Associate Artist.
● Communication with the Conservatory and Guest Artist acting company.
● Assisting with scheduling, filing, calendar planning.
● Some previous knowledge of theater and theater arts- from a technical, artistic or managerial side a plus.
● Working knowledge of Google docs and Word a plus.
● Distribution of brochures and flyers to local businesses
● Handle printing of projects for CTC including posters, inserts, flyers, and displays
● Assist with on-grounds turnover between shows including posters, signage, displays, and ticket availability signs.

Company Management Intern

The Company Management Intern is a supporting role that works inside the Company Management team at CTC. This position requires good organizational skills, the ability to take initiative, problem solve, and have an outgoing professional personality. Under the supervision of the Company Manager, the Intern will assist with housing placements, hospitality and event management, catering, organization projects, and arrival orientations for students, actors and staff. 

Production Management Intern

The duties of the Production Management intern include but are not limited to:

● Assist the Production Manager in all duties, including but not limited to: receipt reports, union payroll, load in schedules, vendor contact information, and tech rehearsals
● Serve as the Assistant Production Manager for all Special Programming events
● Assist other departments as needed, particularly during load-ins and tech weeks
● Assist the Assistant Production Manager with Operations and Facilities

Scenic/Carpentry/Paints Intern

The Scene Shop intern will have an opportunity to gain knowledge in both carpentry and scenic painting. A bulk of their time will be spent working with the carpentry staff and gaining knowledge of the tools in the shop along with how to properly build stage scenery. They will also get a chance to work with the paints department to learn more about being a scenic painter.

Props Intern

This position will assist in all areas of properties production from helping fabricate props to the backstage running and maintenance of props in a production. Opportunities to prop smaller special projects will present themselves throughout the summer. A cursory knowledge of skills include but are not limited to woodworking, painting, sewing, metal working, Microsoft Office and Photoshop. This position serves on run crew as the properties run crew for all productions.

Costume Intern

The costume intern will work closely with all members of the CTC costume shop. Duties may include but are not limited to: sewing, help with load-in/strike, pulling and restocking, assisting with crafts, labeling garments after fittings and running shows at theater. To also gain experience in Wardrobe, this position will serve as the second Wardrobe staff member on the final full production of the season.

Electrics/Sound Intern

The Electrics/Sound Intern will work closely with the Master Electrician, Audio Engineer, Electrician, Sound Technician, and Union Overhire, in the hang/focus and maintenance of all sound and lighting equipment for CTC productions and special events. This position will also serve as a member of run crew – either backstage assisting Stage Management, Props, or Wardrobe or running the light or sound board – for all productions throughout the season.
