Statement by Deborah Sunya Moore, vice president and director of programming, on the Oct. 28 announcement that Vivienne Benesch has been appointed as producing artistic director of PlayMakers Repertory Company at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill:

It is with great enthusiasm that Chautauqua Institution congratulates Vivienne Benesch and PlayMakers Repertory Company on what is sure to be a thrilling partnership. Vivienne has a rare commitment to both artistic excellence and educational merit. She is a community builder at her core and we look forward to seeing PRC’s growth under Vivienne’s leadership. We are also pleased that she will continue as artistic director of Chautauqua Theater Company in 2016 and excited for remarkable productions of Sarah Ruhl's In the Next Room and Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew.

Statement by Vivienne Benesch:

I am thrilled and honored to be taking on the producing artistic directorship at PlayMakers Repertory Company and it feels like a very natural fit alongside my role at Chautauqua Theater Company. PRC and CTC have much in common. Most significantly, they are both embedded within great institutions that truly value the role that the arts and arts education play in the investigation of what it means to be human and a citizen of the globe. They are also both dedicated to theatrical excellence, relevance and innovation. I feel very lucky and challenged by this next step.
